Feedback for templates

Like we did for 2005, we will release all templates of the cars. I prepared them back then and I’m preparing the new ones right now. Personally I think the templates for 2005 were already quite complete, the templates as well as the documentation. There are few things to address, but I wanted to ask here, if there are any things, I should consider. If there are things I should adress in the documentation, I should write about.

Questions or answers are welcome.

House cleaning

One job has to be done every now and then. Now I don’t mean this little bit of project management and the regular question “what are you dooooing?” and “any news?”. I mean the job of working through the repositories and cleaning up the mess that collects over time. We have 15 gb of source material: texture, models, all this stuff. However this cleaning up is actually fun, because working through the archives, the old sources, brings up memories …

Distribution methods

Ok, this one is half-official, half-personal interest.

For some time I was looking for good decentralised encrypted online storage provider. About 2 weeks ago, I finally found a system, that met my expectations and it opened up even some new possibilites. Namely a possible new way for file distribution. I don’t want to advertise the system, however I’d like to get some feedback if this approach makes sense to pursue and how it would work for you.

Anyway, we won’t rely on just one technique for the upcoming release, but try to balance the load on several servers and severals technical solutions.

Bugs to hunt down

We are currently busy hunting down bugs. While the physics test are still running, we collect bug reports and fix them. Just to give you a small sense of this, here a screenshot of our today’s bug tracking screen.

So with more than 100 liveries (or is it 150?) and trackvariants, there is a lot of potential for bugs and we put a lot of effort in getting them.

Status & other things

First of all, sorry for delay on posting news on the devblog.

We were quite busy working on the mod the last few weeks. I was working on the Safety Car cockpit. The cockpit is ingame now while Shaun is working on the textures. Erale, who did the DTM 2007 mod, will do the rev gauges for us (thanks for that!). Alex (afborro) is working on the new driverbody for the mod and some stuff to increase the performance of the mod (new lod’s etc.)

Now to the most important point of the mod, physics. We are at about 90% and we’re doing intensive testing now. Each weekend we’re racing 2 50% races on 2006 tracks to gain the data we need for the physics.  We finished the Races on Melbourne and Imola last weekend so you can calculate when we’re about to finish. It’s possible that we do more tests after the betatest season is completed but we’ll keep you updated about that.

Another point we’re thinking about is a PSE (public server edition). It’s not a version of the mod with equal physics for each car (like MMG did). It is an installation for the dedicated servers. There you have only the really needed files, e.g. no car textures etc. to get a smaller installation for the dedicated servers.  But we’re not sure if there is really need for it. So comments on this point are more than welcome.

Waiting preparation kit.

Thanks to w4llsb4lls for this idea.

A waiting preparation kit. Something like a survival kit, to ease the pain waiting for the mod. But after a short brainstorm with Andy, I got no idea, what this kit should actually include except the mod itself.

So I ask here, what would make it easier for you to wait? Anything we haven’t thought of yet? 🙂
