rfDynHUD avaliable at github

The first release of rfDynHUD was almost 2 years ago and last year we decided to make the project Open Source to allow Third-Party developers to write their own widgets, enhance the code and contribute to the development. So far we gave access to anyone interested. This week we decided to take the next step and release the source code to the public.

rfDynHUD source code is now available at github. You can browse the project, clone your copy and start hacking new features with Github giving a great interface to manage all contributions and integrate them in future versions. If you have never looked into git, we suggest you do, because it allows for a very comfortable workflow.

We invite everyone who has had a look at Java to have a look.

  2. Hello,

I have been running an rFactor installation with rFDynHUD and some other plugins on Windows 10 without problems for over 2 years, which sounds like it shouldn’t be possible but it is. Except… I can’t get rFDynHUD to work anymore.

I wrote the message below to Marvin through the contact form on the rFDynHUD site, but I’m not sure if it will reach him, so please allow me to reproduce it here.

    Hello,

I would like to contact Marvin Fröhlich because of some problems I have had recently with rFDynHUD on rFactor 1 that no one seems to be able to help me with.

I run Windows 10 Home 64-bit on my HP Laptop with a quad-core 3.2 GHz CPU, 8 GB RAM and a 2 GB AMD Radeon Vega 3 graphics card. I have no problem running rFactor v1.255 (not the Steam version) normally. However, with rFDynHUD I started experiencing some problems.

The first issue started occurring recently and it was that whenever Windows installed an update that affected .NET, all my rFactor installs with rFDynHUD stopped working. I have multiple rFactor installs, some with rFDynHUD and some without, also some with other plugins, and all the ones with rFDynHUD would stop working whenever this happened. When I removed the .NET update, they would work again.

This was the state of affairs until today, when I rebooted my laptop two times and tried to run rFactor again afterward. All the installs with rFDynHUD would not work (when I say would not work, I mean crash to desktop before the game has even loaded, i.e. before the ISI logo appears on screen). The difference is that this time, Windows had not installed any updates. I only rebooted twice and changed the rFactor video settings. I had previously switched from 1024×768 windowed mode to 1920×1080 fullscreen mode and switched it back, that’s all.

I have no idea what is causing the issue this time, but it seems to be related to the various d3d9.dll files. To remedy the problem I tried first of all removing rFDynHUD and this made rFactor work again. However, because I need rFDynHUD for a project of mine, I installed it again. Previously I had rFDynHUD v1.3 and now I installed v1.4. This comes with a d3d9.dll with a “last modified” date of 16/02/2014, which the installation instructions tell me to put in the Plugins folder of my rFactor install. But there is also another version of d3d9.dll (date 25/06/2011) in the rFactor root folder, and yet another (date 11/03/2022) in C:\Windows\System32.

I tried renaming both the d3d9.dll in the rFactor root folder and the one in Plugins, neither works. I have not touched the one in Windows\System32 for fear of breaking something.

I have several different versions of Java installed on my system, but the one in my JAVA_HOME environment variable is Java 6, although I noticed that the rFDynHUD editor (which works fine, by the way) is using Java 7.

If you could point me to a solution, or at least think about my problem and give me some advice as to what it could be, or really anything that helps, that would be much appreciated. I hope to hear from you.

    Kind regards,

      1. Hi Dahie,

Don’t worry, I managed to get it working, thanks to a very attentive person on Reddit. 🙂

Now I’m trying to create some new widgets for it…
